Who We Are

Here's the deal, Mitchell Wesleyan Church cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus Christ. Mitchell Wesleyan Church is a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus, and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.

Where  We Come From

Mitchell Wesleyan Church was started in 1924 by a trio of families. Back then, this trio of families imagined a church that was truly welcoming to everyone - where everyone had a seat at the table regardless of personal history, family background, ethnicity, or gender.

Where We Are Headed

What's the bottom line? More than ever, Mitchell Wesleyan Church is committed to fostering a family built around multiplying Jesus . Hope for the future. Hope for better. Hope for progress. Hope in Jesus. And as we move forward as a church family, inclusion and belonging remain at the center of who we are as followers of Christ.

What Does This Mean for You?

What does this mean for you? Most importantly, you're always welcome at Mitchell Wesleyan Church. We're saving a seat for you. Wherever you're at in your faith journey, you'll always be accepted as part of the Mitchell Wesleyan family.

Ready to plan your first visit?

It flows from the first invitation Jesus gave to His disciples in Matthew 4:19- “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” What’s amazing is that this invitation to disciples also defines what disciples do.

1. They FOLLOW Jesus. They don’t just believe in their head or feel faith in their heart. They embrace a new and active way of living life, taking their cues from Jesus.

2. They GROW in Jesus. Jesus meets them where they are at, but they are changed as they follow Jesus. They grow into the person God created them to be.

3. They MULTIPLY Jesus. The goal of discipleship goes beyond Bible knowledge and good behavior. Disciples pursue God working through them so they can help others FOLLOW Jesus, GROW in Jesus, and MULTIPLY Jesus.

This invitation (and definition) didn’t just apply to those first disciples. It extends to us as well. This is our God given mission!

We believe in one God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all who put their faith in him alone for eternal life.

We are thankful to be part of a movement and a church family that is bigger than our local church. We are part of the Wesleyan Church, a denomination with a vision of transforming lives, churches and communities through the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ.

- Galations 5:13 (ESV).

Pastor Riley grew up outside of Brookings, South Dakota. As Pastor Riley grew in his faith, he felt convicted to fully surrender all that he wanted to Christ. He discovered God’s call on his life towards Ministry during his junior year at Cedar Canyon Camp in the Black Hills. Years later, he attended Indiana Wesleyan University, eventually finishing his Master’s Degree. In his spare time, he loves to go to coffee shops to socialize and write stories. Bekka Nash

Administrative Assistant

"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12 (esv)

My life has been on the move since the beginning.  I had the privilege of growing up in a missionary family and being involved in missions myself.  Three years ago, I was introduced to my husband, Aaron Nash, and moved to Mitchell, SD.  I have enjoyed finding my place here in Mitchell.  Mitchell Wesleyan Church, and especially the small group, has helped me begin to plant myself here.  Aaron and I love to go exploring the many parks with all of God's beautiful creation.  We also enjoy finding coffee shops and small home-town diners.  I have had the privilege of living in many places; I am glad one of them is Mitchell, SD.

Mary Baltzer

Kids Ministry Major

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

- Psalm 90:12

During this internship, I gained a greater understanding and love for my church by getting to be behind the scenes & see the work that goes into each ministry. I’ve gone to this church my whole life but serving in this deeper way was something special. I also enjoyed creating deeper relationships with the kids in our church. Being able to spend time with them & laugh with them & hear their stories at VBS, kids camp, bible studies & regular Sundays. So much joy. And the people!! I’m such a people person and the staff are so fun to be around. They genuinely care about you & want to see you succeed. I know these people will always be in my corner.

Throughout this upcoming semester, I would really appreciate prayers as I continue to navigate college & for patience as I wait for God to open the next door in my life. Also for discernment as I decide what education age to specialize in! But I’ve had an amazing college experience so far & I hope it continues!

Joni Hofer

Kids Ministry Major

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

This internship was amazing because I got to go alongside the kids as their faith grew, and be there for them through that. It was really amazing to see and to be part of. I also really enjoyed the worship and getting to praise Jesus with the kids.

Some things I could use prayer for would just be that the transition to college would be smooth and that I can get adjusted quickly. Also that God would continue to guide me to His plan for my life and that I would be discerning of His voice.

Cheyanne McClure

Adult Discipleship & Youth Ministry Major

And This is my Prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ -- to the glory and praise of God.  - Philippians 1:9-11

Please pray for Cheyanne while she continues to pursue her degree and as she follows the direction God has for her life.

"My goal is to glorify God in all aspects of my life, and to serve and love His people well."
